Men’s Scratch Championship 2025 at Woodhall Spa – Saturday 16 August Hotchkin Course and Sunday 17 August Bracken Course
The men’s scratch championship saw a talented field of 21 players competing to be the NAPGC champion for 2025. Weather was good with the courses as ever providing a challenging test.Â
Four over 77 was the leading score for the first day with Haste Hill’s Liam Cella leading by a single shot from Rickmansworth’s David Watson who included a 9 on his card.  David was quick out of the blocks on day two and there was little between the pair at the turn with Brent Valley’s Rajbir Ghimire who had started the day on +7 also putting in a charge. On the back 9 however, David took control shooting a bogey free two under, for a three over gross 75 round and eight over 153 total for the 36 holes. Liam took the Southern Trophy on 156 with Raj taking 3rd place just a shot further back on 157.
David now goes on to represent the NAPGC in the England Golf Champion of Champions, back at Woodhall Spa in September.

Men’s Championship 2024 at Woodhall Spa – Sunday 18 August Bracken Course
The men’s championship saw 48 players making the tee sheet having battled through club and area qualifying events. Unfortunately, there was one late injury withdrawal so 47 took on the competing for the national trophies. Congratulations to all who made it to the national final.
Weather was reasonable with the sun shining mostly and very little breeze.
In the scratch section play it was Rajbir Ghimire, Brent Valley, with his 77 (+5) who prevailed to lift the J H Taylor Shield. This left Steve Meacham, Cannock Park, to retain the Division 1 Picadilly net trophy with his 78/74 score.
In the wider net competition, it was Gareth Reynolds, Harefield Place, who set the pace on 71 (-1), aided by his hole in 1 on the tricky 16th hole. The first hole in one at the finals that I can recall! He led right up until the last couple of pairs when he was eventually edged out but did still lift the Division 2 Picadilly net trophy. In Division 3 it was Adam Simpson, a junior from Stevenage, who lifted the Picadilly net trophy with 73 (+1).
The overall net title was decided very late with Gordon Lindsay of Brent Valley shooting 69 (-3) only to be matched by Prem Sharma, Haste Hill, with the same score in the vert last group. Going to countback it was Gordon who prevailed to lift the overall net title, with prem taking the Division 4 Piccadilly net trophy.
Our champions Raj and Gordon will receive invites back to the final at Woodhall Spa in 2026 without need to qualify.
Many thanks to Les Hasell for running the competition through the year, and for running the final on behalf of the NAPGC along with Anne Butcher and me.
