Panshanger Golf Club update – 17/08/2026
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) recommended dropping proposals to redevelop Panshanger Golf Club with 500 homes and a new leisure centre following a public consultation that closed in July 2026.
The Proposal: The council explored using the council-owned Panshanger site to build a new public swimming pool, leisure centre, and housing (including social rented homes) to address local shortages.
Community Reaction: The plans drew heavy opposition from club members, local residents, and groups who petitioned to save the 50-year-old public golf course and protect green space.
Outcome: Following mixed feedback and division during the consultation, a report to the WHBC Cabinet recommended that the Panshanger proposal not be progressed or allocated for development in the draft Local Plan.
