Panshanger Golf Club – Closure threat – 18 July 2026

We’ve been notified that Welwyn Hatfield Council is considering closing Panshanger Golf Complex to make way for a new leisure centre and housing development.
I appreciate this isn’t your course and isn’t directly your issue, but I think it’s something that affects all of us who care about keeping affordable, public golf accessible. Once facilities like this are gone, they’re very rarely replaced.
As well as the golf course itself, the clubhouse, bar and restaurant are a real community hub, hosting weddings, parties, charity events, golf societies and countless local gatherings throughout the year. There is a huge amount at stake for members, visitors, staff and the wider local community.
We’ve started a petition and will be putting forward the strongest possible case to the council. If you could spare a minute to sign it, and if possible share it with your members and fellow captains, we’d be incredibly grateful. Every signature and every share strengthens our case and shows the level of support for protecting community golf facilities.
