Handicap Calculations for NAPGC team events.
There have been several queries regarding calculation of handicaps in team events. This became more complex with the move to using unrounded figures in the calculation of playing handicaps for stroke play (medal and stableford) events (rather than calculating on the rounded course handicaps). We are aligned to the England Golf, so this is the direction we are following with no rounding of numbers until the end stage.
England Golf have published advice including a ‘mixed tee calculator’ which can be used for a variety of formats and it’s use is not limited to playing from different tees.

The following, which is contained in the NAPGC rules of competition should be followed:
————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Single Tee Greensomes calculation:
1. Handicap Index x slope ÷ 113 = ____ (unrounded) + course rating – par = _____ (unrounded).
2. Repeat for both players, then adjust these unrounded figures to 60% (0.6) x the lower figure and 40% (0.4) x the higher figure (still unrounded).
3. Add these two figures together then round for the pair’s playing handicap.
*The EG mixed handicap calculator, selecting the same tees for each player, is the easiest way to establish handicaps.

Mixed Greensomes calculation:
Based on using woman’s card for par and stroke index card
1. Man’s handicap Index x slope ÷ 113 = ____ (unrounded) + course rating – par = _____ (unrounded) + men’s par – women’s par = _____ (unrounded).
2. Woman’s handicap Index x slope ÷ 113 = ____ (unrounded) + course rating – par = _____ (unrounded).
3. Then adjust these unrounded figures to 60% (0.6) x the lower figure and 40% (0.4) x the higher figure (still unrounded).
4. Add these two figures together then round for the pair’s playing handicap.
*The EG mixed handicap calculator, selecting the relevant tees for each player and women’s tee as the tee for overall calculation, is the easiest way to establish handicaps.

Better Ball Stableford calculation:
1. Handicap Index x slope ÷ 113 = ____ (unrounded) + course rating – par = _____ (unrounded).
2. Then 85% x the unrounded figure and then round to get playing handicap.
3. Repeat for both players.
* The handicap calculator on golf genius is the easiest way to establish handicaps.

Better Ball Match Play calculation:
1. Handicap Index x slope ÷ 113 = ____ (unrounded) + course rating – par = _____ then round for course Handicap.
2. Then within each four-ball group the player with the lowest course handicap will concede 90% of the difference in course handicaps to the other players with strokes taken as per the course stroke index listings.
*The course handicap table can be used for individual players.

Nb. The NAPGC result sheets contains boxes for various stages of the calculations to assist Captain’s, these can be completed if helpful, but if Captains have agreed the figures using an agreed method such as the EG mixed tee calculator or another calculator, only the handicap indexes and playing handicaps need to be shown when the sheet is returned.
